ABSTRACT

Chapter 2: Research on Mindfulness and ACT Interventions. This chapter reviews the research literature on the use of mindfulness and ACT practices with specific clinical populations and in the schools. The first part of this chapter overviews mindfulness and acceptance-based practices and the research supporting their use. Specific areas of research reviewed include mindfulness with trauma-exposed youth, those with ADHD, youth who are at risk of being a danger to themselves or others, and young children (ages 4–6). The latter half of the chapter examines research on mindfulness and ACT with adult stakeholders and the limitations of the current research. Also discussed are areas where additional research is needed.
