ABSTRACT

Chapter 3: Mindfulness Techniques for Individual Work. This chapter describes specific mindfulness techniques that can be used when providing individual intervention to youth (a Tier 3 intervention). First, an overview on how to effectively provide psychoeducation to youth regarding the stress response, as well as how to explain the meaning and utility of mindfulness are provided. Five practice areas are then explored, including breathwork, body scanning, meditation, heartfulness and gratitude, and yoga and other physical practices. Practical handouts, scripts and case examples are offered.
