ABSTRACT

Admissions is the lifeblood of American colleges and universities. It is a source of students and of tuition revenues. Going to college includes applying to college and staying in college. The interdependence of these sequential steps creates the round of life for the student experience and for the coherent fulfillment of the academic experience and degree completion. Traditional emphasis has been on the high stakes experience of admissions. Yet in recent years concerns about students dropping out and failing to complete degree programs has led to attention and integration of admissions and student affairs and academic programs. New terminology often includes the structure and concept of “student success” teams in educational plans and programs.
