ABSTRACT

This chapter will begin the in-depth discussion of the empirical research reported in the study, drawing upon the existing literature and in-depth interviews with a rich tapestry of views and assessments of issues from age-friendly officers or senior managers who oversee the age-friendly schemes in their localities. The chapter will offer insights into the nature of the people managing these schemes, their divergent career backgrounds, expertise and perception of ageing as a societal issue. The research findings will explore why certain localities chose specific age-friendly pathways and how these are often conditioned or shaped by national or local political agendas.
