ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the airport capacity in two spectra, one as the capacity of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) and another as one capacity of the airfield. The minimum of these two is the airport capacity. The airfield capacity determinants are described with sketches for better understanding. The best practice is to augment the capacity by appropriately designing the infrastructure and the aviation stakeholders’ efforts to update the procedures. Since the capacity is to be estimated based on peak-hour traffic, this chapter includes the various methodologies for working out the same from the annual traffic numbers. The description includes the capacity of PTB, cargo facility, and landside facilities. This chapter ends with a brief on how to increase an existing airport’s capacity.
