ABSTRACT

Change facilitation is a process of interaction in which those who are involved continuously must make decisions. The client must decide what he says or does not say. The change agent must decide what he asks or does not ask. In addition to that, there is an inevitable mutual influence that on its turn decides what the client and professional decide. To handle this complexity, SoFAP developed decision rules to deal with complex matters in a simple way. (1) If something still works, do not repair it but show respect and appreciation for what still works; (2) If something does not work or no longer works or does not work well enough after you have tried it for a while, stop doing it without droning on but learn from this, and try something else; (3) If something works well enough, well, or better, keep doing it and/or do more of it; (4) If something works well enough, well, or better, learn it from someone else and/or offer it to someone else.

In this chapter, we deconstruct every rule and offer a detailed analysis, including the appropriate interventions.
