ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the central operational mechanism of the SoFAP approach: what is it that we do in the interaction with our client. Creativity (as contrary to fixed protocols) points toward a process of creating. It both originates in and emerges from a complex, circularly intertwined choreography that moves everything from the dancers to the audience, stage, and choreography itself.

We use the metaphor of a seven-step dance to deal in a flexible and creative way with what their clients bring up.

Contact (step 1) is the motor of change, context (step 2) is the territory in which you travel together with the client, goal setting (step 3) is the satellite navigator, resources (step 4) are the fuel in the engine, and compliments (step 5) are the turbo that gives the engine of change more power. These five steps represent a basic SoFAP attitude. The next two steps, offering differentiation and future orientation contain more technical aspects of the SoFAP approach as these are reflected in the use of scaling questions and the Miracle Question.

Depending on the specific situation you are dealing with, there are endless combination possibilities with these seven steps.
