ABSTRACT
This chapter has its focus on the literature on the professions. Professionalism is linked to expertise through Weber's theory of bureaucracy and through Abbott's analysis of the System of Professions, among others. I will critically discuss contributions by Berger and Luckmann, Eyal, and Collins, touching upon issues such as inclusion and exclusion, tacit knowledge, and substantial v relational forms of expertise.
