ABSTRACT

This first chapter encapsulates ways of approaching filmmaking through developing intuition, facing fear, and embracing failure. The process of developing intuition has a great deal to teach nonfiction filmmakers. Documentary filmmaking builds on the creation of direct relationships with a myriad of people and stories, and as such, it demands of the filmmaker a mastery of both organization and spontaneity. Tapping into their own sense of fear and developing their intuition can lead filmmakers towards their unique voices as directors and creative producers.
