ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 explores exercises aimed at helping nonfiction filmmakers develop their intuition, confronting fear, and embrace failure. Chapter 2 focuses on how to generate ideas, stories, and other essential elements of filmmaking. You’ve got an idea for a nonfiction film – so what’s next? Many writers are familiar with the paralysis that sets in after coming up with a topic they’d like to explore. Whether it’s writer’s block or imposter syndrome creeping in, this phase can be disheartening in the creative journey. How can you tell if you have a good idea worth sharing? I’ll share one of my biggest takeaways: building trust, practising active listening, and self-reflection can help you break free from this mindset and allow your ideas to flourish. At the end of the chapter, there will be a series of writing activities to kickstart the creative process.
