ABSTRACT

In the present chapter, I document and describe the Gujjar beliefs about their ancestors and protectors along with their worship practices. In the recent past, the Gujjars in Mawana and its rural surroundings would worship their kuldevis/kuldevtas in their homes and fields which has now changed over a time. The new Gods have taken over older Gods. More specifically, in the last three generations, there has been an evident shift from lineage and agrarian deities to caste deities. This has helped Gujjars to unite as a socio-political community.
