ABSTRACT
The Digger passed through all his grades without a hitch, and a fortnight after reaching Fourth Stage was promoted to Leadership, and placed in charge of R table. There had been one or two changes, but most of my old associates were still there. I accompanied him to the Governor's office in D Hall to receive his Leader's band. The Governor, following the usual custom, informed the Digger that he had been recommended for promotion, and then said a few words on the responsibilities of Leaders, and the necessity for reporting all breaches of prison discipline without fear or favour. When the Hall Officer had placed a Leader's band on his arm, the ceremony was complete.
