ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 provides insights into how a thesis writer can take greater control over how they want to write themselves into their thesis. It unpacks the major parts of a traditional thesis and the diverse ways that thesis writers can bring their own ways of being and doing into it. The chapter discusses how a thesis writer may want to bring themselves in, to the fore, in some parts of their thesis but how they may want to silence their personal ways of being and doing in other parts. The chapter considers a range of choices that thesis writers can make throughout the thesis from the front matter to the conclusion to everything in between. It explores how the thesis writer can use their thesis title, research questions and even definitions to perform their researcher and thesis writer identities. Chapter 4 ends with a discussion of the pros and cons of writing a thesis through publication.
