ABSTRACT

How do our baseless beliefs about fathers affect workplace policies, paternity leaves, child custody laws, and the behavior of researchers, pediatricians, and mental health workers? How does maternal gatekeeping impact fathers’ relationships with their children? How do toy companies and the advertising, publishing, and entertainment industries reinforce the negative beliefs about fathers, and what could they do differently? How can fathers combat the stereotypes? What can a father-friendly country like Sweden teach us about changing our sexist beliefs and discriminatory policies toward fathers?
