ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how empathic leaders communicate, which involves regular or dynamic communication, taking advantage of informal moments to learn about team members via listening. Communication is tailored by empathic leaders to suit the individual or group. In the current age, technology has offered a variety of ways of communicating, and the leader needs to choose the best one for each person and situation. If possible, face-to-face communication is preferred by empathic leaders since it allows access to more knowledge of the other, including body language. Miscommunications present a threat to leaders, and so an empathic leader aims for congruence.
