ABSTRACT

Little is known about Bion’s early training as a practising psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic in the 1930s. He was clearly influenced by the holistic bi-psycho-social tradition, and had a passing interest in Carl Jung’s psychosomatic interest. His technical approach had less strict boundaries than psychoanalysis (vide his relation with Samuel Beckett in 1935), and he eventually moved towards a more rigorous training within a few years.
