ABSTRACT

During his time as Director of the London Clinic of Psychoanalysis and then as President of the British Psychoanalytical Society, Bion was faced with the different schools of thought. This led him to a prolonged enquiry into the nature of psychoanalysis as a form of knowledge. However, it entails for a subjective form of knowledge an understanding of the way an experience of gaining knowledge connects with the philosophical literature on what scientific knowledge is.
