ABSTRACT

Having an opportunity to train in the helping professions is a chance not afforded to everyone, and those who devote part of their professional lives to training students are invested in ensuring a positive learning experience. This chapter addresses common issues and practices related to ending an internship or practicum placement. Critical tasks include terminating the supervisory relationship, giving and receiving evaluative feedback, seeking and securing letters of recommendation, ending relationships with staff members, expressing your gratitude to those supervisors and staff members who were integral to your experience on-site, and looking ahead to your future professional life. We emphasize the importance of engaging in ongoing self-evaluation, remaining open to and invested in continued areas for growth, and owning your strengths as a professional in training.
