ABSTRACT

As interns conclude their placement and reflect on the experience, this unique chapter invites them to reflect on the deeper lessons and impressions they may have formed both favorable and unfavorable, of the work, their profession, the people they serve, institutions where they work and, in many ways, the broader realities of life and humanity. The goal is to encourage sustained contemplation and thoughtful discussion of topics that transcend basic academic knowledge or clinical skills training in order to get to the heart of why we do this work, how it affects us, what we learn, and the things we can and cannot change.
