ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will set out the theory and structure of the Engineering Design Process used throughout this book. Here, we will fully explain the purpose of each stage, the type of thinking and activities required (with examples to illustrate) and how this can be used and applied by children. This chapter will also include an examination of how science and D.T. learning can be incorporated and taught using this model. This includes an examination of both process skills and subject content knowledge. The icons, referencing system and diagrams to be used subsequently will be laid out as a basis for the following chapters.
