ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduced some of the main ways in which fatigue can be measured and quantified. The importance of ensuring that measured variables reflect potentially fatigue-causing mechanisms, and the difficulty in measuring some potential modulators of fatigue, was discussed. New and emerging technology that is being implemented in the study of fatigue in sport and exercise was also introduced. Technological advances and the development of new measurement procedures enable access to new avenues of study and a greater understanding and appreciation of a research area, and such advances have driven many of the recent developments in the study of the physiological regulation of sport and exercise.
