ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the lack of research and discussion into how best to handle the erotic transference and counter-transference dynamics when analyst or analysand are sexual abuse survivors. There is rich material to be explored about the specific transference and counter-transference experiences likely within this context and understanding these is vital in our care for vulnerable patients. It highlights particularly the moment of moving to the couch, which can be highly significant for both members of the dyad, especially when they have histories of sexual abuse.
