ABSTRACT

This chapter presents activities which are focused on a consideration of some potential directions we may need to move in, both individually and collectively, if we are to continue to learn and thrive in an increasingly environmentally, economically and socially pressured world. Profound changes in multiple aspects of how we live have happened and are happening, with attendant profound impacts on our collective wellbeing and on our opportunities to learn effectively and beneficially. Both what we learn in the future, and how we learn it, are going to need to change, and change radically, in order for us to be able to build a liveable future. Three key themes relating to the future of learning and wellbeing are considered in this chapter: climate change and climate collapse; the information-rich hyperconnected world; and finally, the need for finding ways to foster hope in the face of these challenges. The activities within this chapter are a start in perhaps offering some ways to prepare for our shared wellbeing-learning future. The activities are therefore not so much an attempt to provide easy answers (which there may not be) as an invitation to consider possible options and to identify possible directions, whether on an individual, personal level, within small learning and/or community groups, or within wider societal contexts.
