ABSTRACT

Children are being bombarded with information from their environment every second of every day, along with interactions occurring with everyone in it. As their developing minds absorb all of this information they need to sort it out. To do so, the mind explores what it thinks to be the case. When this is correct, intuition kicks in to affirm this knowledge. And when something is not quite right, corrections and adaptations can be made. By testing and reaffirming their ideas through every experience, a child's imagination is fuelling these processes. When children are permitted opportunities to follow their intuitive responses, their confidence in the learning process and their motivation to follow their instincts flourish, enabling children to seek out and access their own learning opportunities, drawing logical conclusions from them as they make the necessary links. In this chapter you will learn why it is important to recognise and nurture a baby's imagination and intuition. You will understand how you can develop their ability and desire to embrace these key learning dispositions and gain the support you need to reflect on your practice and the experiences you offer. Having read this chapter, you will:

Know why it is important for babies to have good ideas
