ABSTRACT

Our behaviours and the choices we make every day have a deep impact on the experiences of our children. How we support their transitions to how we organise lunch; how we offer praise or the resources we surround them with. We make these choices for children constantly and often without much conscious thought. But with every active choice we make we are impacting children's growth and development, affecting them in both positive and negative ways. In this chapter we will look at why the experiences you offer to children have such an impact and discuss the practices you can embed from day one to support a child's ongoing development to give them the best opportunities for future success. Having read this chapter, you will:

Know why the decisions you make for children have such a big impact on their future development

Understand the importance of emotional stability and how impactful early environments are to babies

Be supported to consider the routines, objectives and expectations at the centre of all you do.
