ABSTRACT

In this brief “Prologue”, the author introduces the field of “media psychoanalysis”. Professor Brett Kahr begins the book by describing how, in 1984, he delivered his very first radio broadcast about psychoanalysis for the British Broadcasting Corporation, while still a young student. He then explains how, in the decades which followed, he continued to develop his career as a media psychologist, contributing to both radio and television. Moreover, he discusses the hesitancy of many members of the mental health community to engage with the general public, and considers how such reluctance has prevented the profession from having flourished more fully. The author also offers a summary of the subsequent chapters of the book.
