ABSTRACT

As with researching the instructor, an engaging online signature course must be crafted with care and attention to who the learners are, their preferences, and their desires. Chapter 3 guides with tools and processes for understanding your learners’ diverse contexts, goals, and strengths. It emphasizes the value of this research followed by a review of instructional design, user experience design, and learner experience design. The chapter continues with an overview of researching your learners through offices within your institution and proceeds with interviewing your learners, followed with tools such as a positionality wheel and samples of empathy maps.
