ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the focus on safety as the priority is introduced. The chapter begins with a focus on safety and several issues to consider when working with theatrical violence. Other sections talk about the importance of understanding that this book is focused on theatrical fighting and not real combat with an edged weapon. Bringing to light the issue that theatrical fighting is not to be used in real-life situations and that real-life techniques and sharp weapons have no place on the modern stage or in films. The chapter closes out by talking about partnering, distance, speed, and prop weapon maintenance.
