ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the use of active blocks and various attacks on the blade. Historical terms and techniques are discussed along with the issues to keep in mind regarding safety. Starting off with active blocks, the author explores circling, passthroughs, striking, knock-aways, and deflective parries to all targets around the actor’s body both in the high line and low line. Attacks on the blade in regard to pressure attacks are examined including presses, pressure glides, glissades, and yielding parries. The chapter finishes out with the author exploring the various uses of the pris d’fer, including the use of the croisé, bind, envelopments, and expulsions. The chapter closes out with several drills for the actors and closing comments for actors and directors relating to information contained in the chapter.
