ABSTRACT

The Jewish community in Rome was plagued by strife when Paul arrived pursuing his mission. The tensions exploded when the Great Fire of Rome broke out in 64 CE, and Nero looked for scapegoats. He chose the Christ-followers among the Jewish communities and brutally executed many. Only six years later, Roman armies destroyed Jerusalem, and these two events served as a beginning of the separation of Christian from Jew. This chapter ends confirming this separation under Emperor Domitian in 96 CE and the Christian responses to these events.
