ABSTRACT

This introductory section gives a brief overview of the book and its structure and provides a taste of what is to come. It outlines what insider risk means and why it is so important. The first half of the book explores the nature and origins of insider risk and the many ways in which it can cause harm. Case histories are used throughout to illustrate the practical realities. The second half of the book describes how organisations and businesses can protect themselves against insider risk with a system of personnel security measures. Later chapters also consider the nature of trust and deception, ways of measuring insider risk, and barriers to success in achieving good personnel security.
