ABSTRACT

The chapter presents a framework called the ‘Pyramid of Trust’ to highlight the recommendations of this research study. Underpinning these recommendations is the political intention of the government because without it, no change is possible. These recommendations range from implementing the laws in letter and spirit to moving towards collaborative governance because, in a state rife with developmental conflict, the nature of development politics needs to be revisited as the top-down perception of development is incompatible in Jharkhand. It is also recommended that Adivasis be genuinely consulted instead of merely doing it to tick the box and that there is a requirement for increased Adivasis presence in positions of power. The book also suggests that the land acquisition process needs to be improved, including finding alternatives to land banks, and fairly representing the Adivasis in the census.
