While the previous chapters dealt with the pathways and measurement of migration, this chapter looks at the consequences of migration. Internal migration plays a significant role in the development process, poverty reduction and influencing the social life of the people. Migration is also closely related to changes in the composition of the population in the areas of origin and areas of destination. With migratory trends, money, knowledge, skills and innovations also circulate between the places connected through migration in the form of monetary and social remittances and networks. This chapter therefore discusses the consequences of migration in detail.
