ABSTRACT

This chapter briefly outlines Milner’s theorization of the healthy emotional-psychological development of the subject. The importance of early development, which includes the feelings that parents have about the child, is central in her work with children, adolescents, and adults as one must constantly return during their clinical work to what has transpired throughout the years, following the earliest developmental stages. It is suggested that an implicit equation between baby–caregiver and patient–therapist drives Milner’s psychoanalytic model and technique.
