ABSTRACT

In theatrical production, pay equity does not exist across roles, types of productions, or types of employers. Why is this? What does equitable pay look like in theatrical production? This chapter investigates the issue of pay equity throughout the field of theatrical production and presents examples of current initiatives to improve pay equity in the field. It explores the reasons for the drastic differences in pay across types of producing organization, production, and role, and investigates why traditional pay models may not translate appropriately into the field.
