ABSTRACT

Asset mapping has long been a tool in community research, but the spread of freely available, relatively low-tech walking tour and GIS applications allows anthropologists and their interlocutors to represent their community, its strengths and its problems, not only for people in the community, but for other visitors, researchers, and even for grantors. This chapter describes multimedia methods for asset mapping and outlines advantages for people in the community and for anthropologists in terms of data and community empowerment.
