ABSTRACT

This chapter will help prepare future and practising educational and developmental psychologists for a productive professional life. One key challenge faced by educational and developmental psychologists is the understanding and recognition of educational and developmental psychology as an area of practice, both within and outside the profession. A myriad of roles and contexts are relevant to psychologists with training in educational and developmental psychology. In this chapter, we discuss the varied roles of educational and developmental psychologists as well as considerations for private practitioners, working overseas, and early career psychologists. Learning and development are relevant at every career stage, and arguably in most sectors and settings; however, this chapter will specifically discuss a brief overview of resources and considerations to help prepare for a successful career in the field. To address some of these challenges, some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) have been compiled offering resources for training, avenues for additional information, peer connection, and professional work.
