ABSTRACT

The introduction to Strength-Based Goal Setting in Gifted Education begins by focusing on the academic and social-emotional needs of gifted and high-potential learners. The authors discuss their personal experiences of seeking to further support their own students in developing purposeful goals and acknowledge that Purposeful Empowerment in Goal Setting, the PEGS Model, was born out of necessity for an easily integrated, yet incredibly impactful, structure to further develop student agency in gifted learners. A clear connection to equity, standards, talent development, and self-advocacy are addressed. After a summary of each chapter, the introduction concludes with helpful insights on how to use this book, including understanding the flexibility of the PEGS Model as a structure to meet the individualized needs of gifted and high-potential students.
