ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by examining the development of transformative technologies and discusses what might constitute transformative technologies in a digital age, at a time when there is much debate about these. The second section of the chapter examines the impact of technologies on learning, such as the effect that augmented and virtual reality are having on the idea of the real, and the transposition of transformative technologies for use in learning environment. It also explores the question of what is real, and how the real is created in new digital spaces. The final section analyses the challenges and benefits of utilizing transformative technologies for learning and the way in which they are being discussed and taught in universities.
