ABSTRACT

The Reggio Emilia approach is an educational philosophy closely tied to pedagogical theory that originated in the nursery schools of Reggio Emilia, northern Italy. Loris Malaguzzi was the central figure who inspired the educational philosophy. The Reggio Emilia pre-schools evolved an approach based on encouraging imaginative thinking, listening to children, documentation of learning processes, community involvement, democracy and professional dialogue. The approach has been influential on early childhood practice world-wide and applied in the work of some music educators.
