ABSTRACT
January 6, 2021, is a day that will be remembered in the history of the United States forever. The actions that took place are some of the most unprecedented in the nation's short history and the unique nature of the actions that took place before, during, and after indicates how important the use of social media was in communicating what took place. Working on a group project at New York University, Jack Dorsey was inspired to create a “status-based” social network platform. In April 2007, Twitter officially incorporated after years of software development, marketing, and the typical windfalls that come with corporate formation in the technology industry. Although Twitter is a key player in the social media ecosphere, they are not the only company with a strong foothold in the industry. Other notable companies with hundreds of millions of users include Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
