ABSTRACT

More than 40 percent of patients do not tell their doctors about their use of complementary or alternative medicine, including dietary supplements. Consumers often take dietary supplements to protect or improve their health and consider the products they consume to be, “natural,” safe, and free of side effects. The vitamin and supplement industry produces US$32.7 billion in revenue annually, growing at a rate of two percent each year. Between 2014 and 2019, the supplement industry grew substantially in the United States as rising pharmaceutical drug prices, increased media coverage on health and wellness trends, and an increase in research on diet-related illnesses encouraged consumers to purchase more dietary supplements. Walgreens Boots Alliance is a US-based company and the sixth-largest retail group in the world. Walgreens sells a variety of dietary supplements from brands that include Nature Made, Nature's Bounty, One-A-Day, and its own Walgreens private label brand.
