ABSTRACT

The International Olympic Committee is an international organization and holds the final authority on the national Olympic Movement. It owns the rights to the Olympic symbols, flag, motto, and anthem. Its Executive Board performs legislative functions and enacts all necessary regulations to implement the Olympic Charter. The United States Olympic Committee receives most of its revenue from television broadcast rights, sponsorships, and gifts from individuals. The first modern Olympic Games occurred in April 1896 in Athens, Greece. Sexual abuse by a medical practitioner persists as a widespread problem. The women that have competed at recent Olympics have been outspoken in their grievances with the United States Olympic Committee. Michigan State University has been under US Department of Education oversight since 2014 because of its mishandling of sexual assault and gender discrimination cases.
