ABSTRACT

This chapter finishes the ethnography, focusing on Rainbow's folklore, or forms of verbal and nonverbal tradition. The chapter begins with a description of typical and characteristic linguistic features among Rainbow Gathering participants. “Rainbow language” has two distinctive trends named “vocabulary of connection” and “vocabulary of separation”, as well as its own terminology. Next, the chapter discusses examples of narrative types which are popular among participants or descriptive of the culture, including historical, prophetic, and jocular material. The following part talks about Rainbow's musical tradition, its genres, and verbal content, including ritual and devotional music. The last part of the chapter describes features of Rainbow's material culture, including descriptions of the Talking Stick and Rainbow fashions.
