ABSTRACT

Each of the preceding parts and chapters focused on a subject crucial to sustainable development as it relates to principles of circular economy. Ideally, designers will incorporate these core circular economy principles into their design and building process. Yet, developments are commonly initiated by profit-motivated companies whose priorities may conflict with sustainable ideals and therefore compromises need to be made. Simply put, proposing solutions that ignore the priorities of the initiating party are destined to fail, yet herein lies the promise of a circular economy where “green” and “growth” are not opposing forces. In this concluding chapter, practical aspects of building are reviewed. Basic steps are described that architects and builders can follow at the outset, which offer a new outlook on home building, and new pathways forward toward a circular economy transition in housing.
