ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines what high learning potential (giftedness) is and how it is identified so that occupational therapists can understand this. It includes the Tripartite Model (Pfeiffer), profiles of children with HLP and common characteristics. Asynchronous development of children with HLP is covered as a foundation for the next chapters. Finally, it covers Dabrowski's overexcitabilities of HLP or “gifted” people as a foundation to sensory processing differences and self-regulation difficulties discussed later in the book.
