ABSTRACT

A set of ten country case studies is presented that demonstrate the adoption of desalination technology in different environments and for a variety of purposes, from drinking water in Israel to mining in Chile to improved drought resilience in the UK. The context for each country is described with a focus on their physical, economic, and social characteristics, which provides some context for their desalination industry. Their water and energy resources are also discussed since both are of fundamental importance to the industry. The evolution and status of desalination in each country are discussed, and an indication of potential future developments is explored.
