ABSTRACT

Inquiry learning uses methods of science as a pedagogical strategy. It includes four elements: (a) asking questions, (b) collecting data, (c) using data to answer questions, and (d) reporting results. Inquiry learning is a perfect vehicle for teaching scientific writing. Scientific writing is concise, precise, and objective. This chapter describes four types of data collection used with inquiry-learning activities: (a) observation, (b) surveys, (c) interviews, and (d) experiments. Lab reports are used to report the results of inquiry-learning activities. Tables and graphs are often used to display data. They make the lab report more visual and easier to read.
