ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter discusses the promises and pitfalls of a focus on tolerance by bringing the main arguments and findings together. Tolerance is indispensable for any plural setting, and it will be discussed how social psychology can improve our understanding of the tolerance process, and that increased attention to tolerance also has benefits for social psychology in raising novel theoretical and empirical questions. Furthermore, some practical implications and suggestions for stimulating tolerance with policies and in relation to education will be discussed.
