ABSTRACT

To capture the unions’ financial resources on a per-member basis, we report the per-member net assets, net receipts, member-based income (MBI), and business income (BI) over the seven two-year intervals. On this basis, the unions’ net assets rose 48 percent from beginning to end periods to $833 per member. In 2018–2019, only four unions, however, possessed more than $3k in net assets per member. Six unions had between zero and $100, with one reporting a negative number or liabilities in excess of assets. In terms of average net receipts, the amount rose slightly over 15 percent for the 14 years to $718. Thirteen unions endred the period with a lower amount of net receipts than at the beginning. The amount the unions raised per-member from MBI varied widely, from $53 to $3427 in 2018–2019. The unions, on average, experienced a 53 percent rise in MBI to $454 in 2018–2019.
